Be Courageous

Writer: Rach FawcettRach Fawcett

I like to be optimistic; I try to find something positive in everything. I also strongly believe that sometimes the truth, no matter how brutal, must be said as it is. So here it is, an undeniable and heart-breaking truth that in this crazy thing we call life, we are alone.

Of course, we can love and support people, but ultimately, we are alone with our thoughts, and alone with our pain.

A choice must be made whether this is the life we want and if it is not it is only us who can make the choice to change it. I understand that there are some situations we cannot change, it is overwhelming sometimes living with a mental health condition but we can choose to change our perspective, we can train our brains to think in a different way and we can learn ways to overcome the challenges it presents.

But we must be brave. We must choose to fight, to become a warrior and battle our way out if it. Voices in our head will try to fool you into thinking you aren’t worth it, that the world would be better off without you and this is where the battle begins. Once we have realised how alone we are, its not such an awful thing. We can build up some resilience and rely on ourselves to be our own champion.

When we are going through a mental health though, it can be so tough. The voice of depression is discouraging, our motivation to fight is weakened. Anxiety makes us believe that if we reach out, we will be rejected. But, reaching out and talking to someone is going to be the best way to start dealing with the issues we face.

I want to encourage anyone who is going through someone to muster up the courage to talk to someone. Try to find a trusted friend or family member or if you don’t have that there are helplines and charities with people waiting to help. I can attest to that because I am one of them. I may not know you, but I can assure you that anyone who is trying to endure mental health issues have me at their back, rooting for them.

So please, find that burst of courage and reach out to someone. Lighten your load, find some direction and begin a new life, full of amazing possibilities.
